Virtual reality (VR), which combines multimedia, sensors, new displays, the Internet and artificial intelligence, is an important force in leading a new round of industrial change around the world. At present, China's VR consumer-grade market rapid cultivation, in the game, entertainment, film and television and other fields of product form more rich, business model gradually mature. In particular, this year's 5G commercial, for VR in a wider range of applications opened up a new world.
Wu Shengwu, deputy director of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at a press conference at the 2019 World VR (Virtual Reality) Industry Conference that this year's 5G commercial has opened up new ground for the wider application of virtual reality technology. With the assistance of 5G, virtual reality industry applications that require real-time communication and real-time interaction will be put into practice and promoted.
In recent years, China's virtual reality market has expanded rapidly, and industrial innovation has been emerging. According to market research agency Saidi Consultants forecast that by 2021, China's virtual reality market size will reach 54.45 billion yuan, a compound annual growth rate of 95.2%.
Key technologies continue to break through.
"Virtual reality products are also seen as the next generation of mobile computing platforms and the Internet's entrance, and are expected to be another iconic product after color TV, computers and smartphones." Wu Shengwu said.
In recent years, China's virtual reality industry environment is gradually maturing, consumer-grade applications and industry applications market continues to open, the industrial chain is more perfect. China's rapid development in hardware manufacturing, content application development and business experience promotion and other industrial chain links, is becoming the world's virtual reality industry innovation and entrepreneurial vitality, the highest market acceptance, the largest development potential of one of the regions.
"China's key virtual reality technology continues to break through, the market size continues to expand, the industry application continues to extend." Wu Shengwu said that in terms of technological innovation, China's virtual reality industry since 2013 began to enter a period of rapid patent growth, related key technologies further mature, in the picture quality, image processing, eyeball capture, 3D sound field, machine vision and other technical fields continue to make breakthroughs, is establishing a coverage of hardware, software, content production and distribution, applications and services and other aspects of the technical standards system.
An Wei, deputy chief engineer of the China Institute of Electronic Information Industry Development, believes that a new round of technological breakthroughs in 2019 will trigger a wave of virtual reality development. In image processing, resolution, vertigo control, view point rendering and perspective control become the next breakthrough direction. In interactive technology, inertial motion capture, optical tracking, speech recognition, eye tracking, spatial interaction and many other technologies will be used on a large scale.
The industry estimates that virtual reality will pry trillions of yuan into the market. At present, China has become the world's most important production of virtual reality terminal products, Goethe, Xiaomi, Pico and other companies of virtual reality terminal products shipments ranked in the forefront of the world. However, it is worth noting that in 2018 China's virtual reality market is still dominated by hardware and content. Among them, content accounted for the highest proportion, 49.6%, hardware followed by 41.2%, software and services accounted for a relatively small, to be further exploited potential.
5G commercial development applications.
Today, virtual reality has penetrated into all areas of production and life. For example, VR shopping, VR room to let people stay at home can be immersive, the industrial field of VR glasses can help visual assembly, operation training, data collection and other production links.
At present, the virtual reality consumer market is rapidly cultivated, in the game, entertainment, film and television and other fields of product form more abundant, business model gradually mature. At the same time, virtual reality technology began to be applied to entertainment, manufacturing, education, medical care, transportation, trade and other fields, a number of new industries, new models emerged.
"This year's 5G commercial, in particular, has opened up new ground for the wider application of virtual reality technology."
For example, for the first time, the Central Radio and Television Station used "5G-VR" technology to broadcast the 2019 CCTV Spring Festival Evening live, and Shenzhen People's Hospital completed China's first 5G-AR (augmented reality)/MR (mixed reality) remote liver and bile with the help of 5G network. Surgical surgery, 2000 kilometers away from Beijing experts on the operation process for real-time remote and accurate guidance, Nanchang Public Security Bureau in cooperation with China Mobile, Huawei and other units, connected and launched the country's first real-world scene under the 5G-VR intelligent security application.
In 2019, virtual reality will be deeply applied in manufacturing, transportation, medical and other fields, and the application scenarios will be further enriched. In addition, with the promotion of 5G commercial, virtual reality content rich and virtual community interactive experience, mainly rely on the purchase of hardware equipment revenue model will be transformed, virtual market, virtual shopping, virtual display will be more users.
At the end of last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology formulated and issued the Guidance on Speeding Up the Development of virtual reality Industry, emphasizing the need to promote the application of virtual reality technology in key areas such as manufacturing, education, culture, health and commerce. Wu Shengwu revealed that China will promote the application of virtual reality technology in the above-mentioned key areas, and promote the formation and development of new models.
Enthusiasm for industrial layout is high.
The global virtual reality industry is moving from the initial cultivation period to the rapid development period, China is faced with the rare opportunity to participate in international technology industry innovation, but there are also problems such as insufficient supply of key technologies and high-end products, lack of content and services, imperfect innovation support system and imperfect application ecology.
Around the key nodes of technology, standards, products, applications, services and other industrial chains, China's virtual reality industry urgently needs to strengthen the coordination of production, research and development, and jointly promote the healthy and rapid development of the industry.
The Guidance on Accelerating the Development of Virtual Reality Industry suggests that by 2025, the overall strength of China's virtual reality industry should enter the forefront of the world, master the key core patents and standards of virtual reality, and form a number of virtual reality backbone enterprises with strong international competitiveness.
Wu Shengwu said that this year will strengthen cooperation with local governments, promote increased support from all regions, break through the key bottlenecks facing the development of virtual reality industry, guide and support the application of virtual reality technology products in related industries, promote the construction of virtual reality standards and evaluation systems, and create a favorable policy environment for the sustained, healthy and rapid development of virtual reality industry.
The investment enthusiasm of the virtual reality industry is high. According to Wu Xiaojun, vice governor of Jiangxi Provincial People's Government, 157 VR industry projects and agreements reached at the 2018 World VR Industry Congress, with a total investment of 63.15 billion yuan. At present, these projects are progressing smoothly, the registration rate and capital rate are more than 90%, the operating rate and production rate are more than 80%.
It is understood that Jiangxi Province should strive to make virtual reality industry into a hundred billion yuan industry within 5 years. At present, Nanchang virtual reality industry enterprises have nearly a hundred, a number of VR-plus manufacturing, education, medical, cultural and tourism pilot applications fully launched, VR software, content, manufacturing, applications and other industrial chain ecology gradually improved. In addition, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Qingdao and other places have also taken virtual reality as a key industry to build.
